Earthquake Survival Guide

25 Mar

(Source)

As of 3 hours ago, it has been reported the Metro Manila, Philippines experienced 5.9 magnitude earthquake. I immediately checked on my sister, and she told me it only made her feel dizzy. My Mom and Dad are safe too. Thank God they are all safe! :)

Almost every week, there are reports of an earthquake from different parts of the world and it scares me. We can only hope and pray that we will all be safe, plus we must be informed. I got this from the internet, feel free to take notes too…

If you are Indoors:

“Drop, cover and hold on, within 3 seconds.” – Take cover under a table or similar item if it is close by and hang on to it. This helps protect you from falling objects, but also from flying glass. Experience has shown that you are more likely to be killed or injured from building contents and imploding glass than from structural collapse. To protect yourself from these hazards, you must take protective cover within three seconds during an earthquake.

If a table or something similar is not close by, drop to the floor against an interior wall and cover your head and neck with your arms.

Avoid windows, hanging objects, mirrors, tall furniture, large appliances, and cabinets filled with heavy objects, where things can fall on you.

If you are indoors, stay there! Do not try to run outside.

Serenity Spanish Bar & Restaurant

22 Mar

Sorry for the late post. Been busy the whole week!

We celebrated our 5th Anniversary twice. First, we ate at Serenity Spanish Bar & Restaurant at Vivo City. Insing.com were raving about this place, so we decided to try it out. And we were not disappointed. I loved the whole concept of the restaurant!

We ordered their best-seller Paella, Pork Knuckles, French Fries and Deep Fried Baby Squid. :) I could not get a picture of the food with better quality because it was too dark inside the restaurant. I loved the band singing spanish songs, although they were not as talented as Filipino Singers.

I vividly remember my dad used to sing Spanish Songs like “Besame Mucho” to wake us up every sunday morning. I think he still does, but of course I would not know since we are not living together anymore. I’m here in Singapore and he is in the Philippines. Miss them! :(

As if almost on cue, at about 8:40pm there was a beautiful fireworks display on the Sentosa Skyline, which was opposite Vivo City. It was breathtaking! What a great night! :D

Purple Tulips

15 Mar

Pardon me if I seem so mushy these past few days, but who can resist this beautiful beautiful flowers? It looks so elegant! :)

I’ve read somewhere that Tulips signifies “perfect love.” Purple Tulips specifically means royalty. How noble!!! :)

Ours is not a “perfect love,” and I prefer it that way with all it’s imperfections. 1 day to 5! :)

Overseas Absentee Voting

13 Mar

I called Philippine Embassy three weeks ago and inquired about procedures for Overseas Absentee Voting. This will be my first time ever to exercise my right to vote!!! :) And it’s my responsibility to be informed. I already have my bet for the president and vice president. Although I’m still thinking who my 12 senators will be and partylist representative.

Right now I’m still checking if my name is included in the CLOAV (Certified List of Overseas Absentee Voter). There seems to be an error everytime I do it online… Hmmmm, what to do? Less than 2 months to go!!! :D

“I call on all registered overseas absentee voters to exercise their right of suffrage early, preferably during the first two weeks of voting, instead of waiting for the last week, to avoid long queues in our small Embassy,” urged the lady envoy.

Singapore has the second highest number of registered overseas absentee voters in Asia at 31,851.

Overseas absentee voters can only vote for the national elective positions of President, Vice President, 12 Senators and one (1) Party-list Representative, but not for local positions.

Registered voters in Singapore will be required to vote in person at the Philippine Embassy at 20 Nassim Road. The Embassy will be open for voting for 30 straight days (April 10-May 10), including weekends, from 9 am to 5 pm, except on the last day of voting when it will close at 6 pm.

In order to vote, voters must bring their valid Philippine passport and identification card (PR card, S-Pass, E-Pass or Work Permit). Before proceeding to the Embassy, the voter must check if his/her name is in the Certified List of Overseas Absentee Voters (CLOAV) found in the COMELEC website (www.comelec.gov.ph). Only overseas absentee voters whose name appears in the CLOAV will be allowed to vote.

Chocolate Strawberry Cake

12 Mar

There are so many things I want to organize!!! My refrigerator, my dresser, my closet, my kitchen stuffs, and for heaven’s sake… my bead supplies! But the procrastinator in me gets in the way… Tsk tsk. :o I also want to organize my online accounts, delete the old ones that I haven’t opened in months. I decided to start with friendster.

As I was browsing through the old albums, I came across this picture. This was my first attempt to bake during my boyfriend’s first birthday in Singapore, three years ago. My friend Sheila helped me, the chocolate coating was a disaster at first, but after a few hours we managed to salvage it. I’m so proud that it looked and tasted delicious! But honestly, I’m not sure if I can do it again. Hehehe. Still, not bad for a first try, huh! :D

1 week to 5

9 Mar

First date ever. January 2005. Good Earth, Metrowalk.

Warning : Mushy post alert. Please bear with me as this happens every 5 years. Hehehe.

5 years is BIG! It’s half a decade. If you consider 5 dog years, it’s 37 years in human life!!! Holy Guacamole! (Ok, I’m exxagerating with words! hahaha!) Why did I even compare it with canine age? Hahaha :D

Sometimes I find myself wondering what my life would be like if I never met him? But we did and instantly became friends. There is no romantic connection at first. We’ve been friends for more than 7 years before we got into a relationship. Now, that’s 60 monthsaries, 5 birthday celebrations, 5 Christmas and New Year together! To sum it up, we have known each other for 12 years already!!! :)

Most people don’t know that he can be really goofy and crazy! Yet, he never fails to put a smile on my face when I need it the most. We’ve been very blessed because we are living the life we once dreamt of. But we never stopped believing that God still has something in store for us. Our dream is to conquer New York City someday!!! :)

But life is far from perfect. Everyday is an adventure for us, and we learn from the mistake we made. We shared triumphs and overcame life’s defeat together. It’s good to know that eventhough life seems to be unfair sometimes, there is that one person who will always be there for you. And he always did, without fail. :)

Bottomline is having The Lord in our lives everyday. :)

Off to Ikea

4 Mar

The other day we purposely went to Ikea to eat swedish meatballs look for my beads table. :D

But looks like, we spent more time eating dinner. We’ve been there quite a number of times already but I have not blogged about it. I should have, because this is one of the things I truly enjoy in Singapore. Just looking around those pretty pretty furnitures and buying those funky and useful home gadgets. We also go there for home design ideas. And I’m a member of Ikea friends, so I get 2 free drinks each time I visit plus discounted meals everyday. What a treat! :)

This is what we had for dinner. Swedish Meatballs, Fish with Lemon Butter sauce, 2 pcs fried Chicken Wing and Almond Cake. YUM! :)

Valentine’s Day Movie

2 Mar

I’ve been getting good reviews about this movie, both from friends and celebrities in twitter. They would often quote a line from the movie or drop subtle hints on the movie’s plot. That’s how I found out about the movie’s most shocking moment. :D

If you have not watched the movie, I would not give any spoiler. All I can say is the movie is so funny, I laughed every 5-10 minutes from the start until the end.

Every character is intertwined and has his/her own humor in his/her story. Location set @ Los Angeles, California. Plus it’s an all-star cast, what more can you ask for? My favorite is the cute little boy (I forgot his name), who have only one heartwarming wish. It would make your heart melt. :)

I watched it with my brother and my boyfriend at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard after attending the saturday anticipated mass. :D It would be nice to bring your girl buddies too.

Chinese New Year Dinner

1 Mar

We had a post Chinese New Year Dinner at Pioneer Seafood Restaurant last Thursday (25 February), just a few minutes away from our office. Though only a few person attended the dinner, we still had fun! :)

A six-course dinner consisting of seafood, veggies and noodles plus lots of joking around to take away work related stress, fun! Much better than last year’s CNY dinner at Bali Thai IMM.

Can you believe I’ve been working in Singapore for almost three years now? Thank god. :)
